  1. I thought this was really interesting and the more I thought about it, the more logical the pairing of Shakira and Gabriel Garcia Marquez seemed. Shakira has a large fan base not just in Latin America, but thanks to her cross-over success, in the English-speaking world as well. Garcia Marquez probably gives this effort more credibility, and brings with him a probably different fan base. In the end, they are both hugely successful figures who bring notoriety and attention to the causes that they pursue. Also, being from Latin America (Colombia) and being very successful and recognizable figures in the US as well, may help them better communicate and package ideas to combat child poverty to these different audiences.

  2. I agree with Dina, This combination might just be a match made in heaven in terms of ending child poverty in latin america. Both having latin american heritage, and both being known world wide brings light to the issue of child poverty. These two are on their way to becoming superimpowered individuals. With her charisma, and his intelligence, who knows how they can influence people. I personally never think of the poverty of Latin America because of the constant media coverage of the poverty in Africa. Maybe this is jsut what we need, a pop star and a novelist to spur up sympathy and funding for the poor children of latin america!

  3. I agree these two can do amazing things for the world just as anyone who has the ability to command the attention of the many can. I would be a little hesitant about calling them super-empowered individuals though. I always imagined super-empowered individuals people who can make decisions rather than just rally support.
